What is Humane Education?
At Bunnies n Books, children learn about animal behaviors to better understand how they see the world and hence, how they can interact with them in a kinder, more compassionate fashion.
At The Blue Barn, we believe in the power of Humane Education — a compassionate, thoughtful approach that explores the deep interconnection between humans, animals, and the environment.
This educational philosophy encourages critical thinking and inspires students to tackle real-world issues with empathy and creativity. By supporting learners in addressing the problems they care about most, we help foster a future that is kinder, more compassionate, and safer for all.
Currently, we’re focused on growing our Bunnies n Books program, which promotes empathy and emotional development through reading. We believe that books can be powerful tools in shaping compassionate hearts, especially in children. When they pick up a book, they put themselves in the shoes of the main characters and thus, foster an understanding of how they feel. Pair this up with a lesson on how to “make friends with a rabbit”(teaching about behavior, body language, boundaries and more), we are building strong empathy muscles each and every session.
